Even though it's elementary, I like to write and especially like to rhyme. Rescuers need some relief from the stress of everyday situations, and I find that writing helps relieve some of my negativity and improves my outlook on life. I thought I would share some of my silly poetry and short stories here. Reprinting is permitted as long as credit is given. All of the silliness is by yours truly, the uncurable romantic, eternally silly and ever thoughtful, Tammy Falkner. (And, oh yeah, I'm grumpy, too. he he)
Will there ever be enough homes for them all?
Discarded pets, they're broken and battered,
picked up by rescues whose dreams have been shattered.
Hoping to change it, the way it is done,
the killing of animals left in the cages and runs.
Taking just one as allowed by time and by space,
but changing their minds when they see that little face.
There's one right there next to him, in the cage to the left,
who looks so lonely, forlorn and bereft.
Planning to leave with just one pet,
they leave with their arms full, and they're not done yet.
Why can't people see it? Do they not know?
That all those dogs in the shelter may never go home?
That the solution is easy, it's simple, in fact.
Spay or neuter that pet and make an impact.
Change a life today for a pet who is in need.
Adopt from a shelter and not someone who breeds.
Everyone and their brother would like a puppy,
When in fact they don't have time for a little bitty guppy.
Adopt an adult dog and reap the rewards.
No chewing on furniture or television cords.
Will those people ever come to know?
What strength it takes to love and let them go?
They must think it's easy, if they didn't they would try,
to control their pet's breeding, must we tell them why?
It's because you won't fix them so they can't make more babies!
That's why we have these problems that are driving us crazy!
Can someone invent some magic dust?
Someone has to do it before I bust.
I want to tell them, I need for them to know,
that we're caring for their discards and even though
We do all we can and that's a start,
Sometimes we get down and it breaks our heart.
It's just not enough. We have to change the world.
I wish they could see these specks of sand become shining pearls.
Each one we take will get a great home,
And for that we work ourselves to the bone.
The solution to the problem could be easily found,
Spay or neuter those pets, and adopt from the pound!
